York County CASA is recruiting everyday people to advocate for local foster children. The CASA program on Tuesday, Aug. 9 will be hosting a CASA 101 informational session from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. and again on Wednesday, Aug. 10 from 12:30 p.m. to 1:30 p.m.

The information sessions will be held in the third floor conference room of the York County Judicial Center, 45 North George Street in York City.

CASA Advocates, or Court Appointed Special Advocates, give a voice to foster children who need someone who will look out for their well-being. They develop relationships with the children and work to ensure that assistance and services are available. They also help secure permanent housing for the child.

Community members are encouraged to attend the CASA 101 program to learn more about how they can help.

York County CASA empowers community members to serve as volunteer advocates that speak for the well-being of abused and neglected children in an over-burdened child welfare system.
Foster children who are assigned a CASA advocate are more likely to find safe, permanent housing, receive more services while in foster care, spend significantly less time in foster care and score better on nine protective factors.

How you can help

• Become a CASA advocate – More than 300 children are without the assistance of an advocate in the York County foster care system
• Become a CASA donor – It costs hundreds of dollars to recruit and train each advocate.
• Host a CASA 101 session – CASA will come to your business or organization and educate your personnel about CASA’s mission and goals in the community.
