If your home or business is in a flood-prone area, you likely need some help with flood-proofing your property.Boundary Avenue Penn Township

York County Office of Emergency Management is hosting two flood-proofing workshops Tuesday, Aug. 14. The free sessions are for residents, merchants and elected/public officials.

The workshops are offered by the Pennsylvania Silver Jackets team, a U.S. Army Corps of Engineers-supported group that brings together state, federal, tribal and local governments to help reduce flood risks and other natural disasters. The Silver Jackets work collaboratively with different agencies to enhance response and recovery efforts.

The workshops will offer information on different types of flood reductoin measures from the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers National Nonstructural Committee. Discussion will include elevating buildings, wet and dry flood-proofing structures as well as relocation and acquisition. Federal and state agency representatives will be there to discuss other floodplain management topics like FEMA's National Flood Insurance Program, Community Rating System and other grant programs available to property owners to reduce their flood risks.

If you have any questions regarding the workshop, contact Jason Stick, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, by calling 410-962-3475 or emailing him at Jason.T.Stick@usace.army.mil. We hope to see you at the workshops!
