York County Commissioners approved the 2019 York County Bridge Plan, prepared by the York County Planning Commission, at the commissioners' July 3 business meeting.

This plan guides the commissioners in their immediate and long-term funding decisions for the dozens of county bridges.

The county bridge engineer uses the plan to select priority bridges for yearly maintenance and bridge replacements. The plan has been a guiding force when developing the county's yearly bridge program budget. The county has increased funding for maintenance and adopted the $5 fee for local use based upon shortfall projections within the plan.

The 2019 update includes several items that have been added to the plan. It addresses the new priority order for county bridges, the $5 fee, non-composite adjacent pre-stress concrete box beam bridges, and transportation connectivity studies. The priority group of bridges based on road network has also been modified.
