The York County Commissioners allocated $4.63 million worth of CARES Act funding during a public meeting on Aug. 12. The direct allocations support tourism, cultural arts, workforce and support services.

This money will support the community’s ongoing recovery from the COVID19 crisis.

Based on recommendations provided in the YoCo Strong Recovery Task Force report and the guidelines of the CARES Act, the County may make direct allocations to nonprofit organizations providing a specific service to support the tourism and hospitality industry, cultural arts, and organizations providing a specific service to assist workforce development or front-line basic needs and support services related to COVID19. Nonprofits not receiving direct allocations are eligible to apply to the YoCo Strong Restart Fund for small businesses and nonprofits.

These direct allocations, separate from the $4 million allocation to nonprofits already approved, will help restart vital sectors that have also struggled during the pandemic and were approved unanimously.

“These organizations are tested and true York County institutions,” said York County President Commissioner Julie Wheeler on behalf of the Board of Commissioners. “Many of these organizations are too large for the YoCo Strong Restart Grant program, which we know will be consumed quickly by organizations focused on childcare, food, housing and rapid re-employment.”

The County chose these organizations, which are also institutional partners of nonprofits Explore York and Cultural Alliance of York County.

“We expect these organizations will see a decrease in philanthropic giving and other traditional revenue streams, yet their work has increased and each are vital to our county’s economic health,” Wheeler said.

Organizations receiving a direct allocation will be ineligible to receive funding through the YoCo Strong Restart grant program. The Commissioners welcome input at their regular public meetings, held at 10 a.m. on the first, third and, when applicable, fifth Wednesdays of the month. Meetings are also streamed on the county's Facebook page.
