The York County Commissioners today joined the York County Library System in launching its campaign, One Book, One Community: Our Region Reads, during the board’s public meeting.

Commissioners were joined by Karen Hostetter, library manager for Red Land Community Library, in showcasing “The Curious Charms of Arthur Pepper.” The book, by Phaedra Patrick, was selected in December to be featured by the collaboration among 40 libraries in Cumberland, Dauphin, Perry and York counties. Everyone is welcome to read and discuss the book.

“This particular book this year is a very nice read – a gentle read,” Hostetter said. “I think people voted for that because they wanted something nice this year, something without any angst.”

Libraries will be holding free programs and discussions beginning in February, which is designated as Library Lovers’ Month. A reading guide and other materials are listed online. Copies of the book can be borrowed free of charge. Program schedules for book discussion groups, an author talk and other activities will be available at all participating public libraries around the county.

The Commissioners value the county’s partnership with the library system that serves communities around the county.

“Now is a great time for our community to collectively read a book and enjoy all the wonder it has to offer,” said York County President Commissioner Julie Wheeler.

Vaccine update:

The Pennsylvania Department of Health modified its guidance around Phase 1A of the COVID-19 vaccine rollout to include individuals older than 65 as well as individuals ages 16 to 64 with certain conditions. Both UPMC and WellSpan have vaccinated tens of thousands of people so far.
