The Court of Common Pleas of York County is pleased to introduce the newest member of our staff - SSD Philly. Philly is a service dog who is partnered with Judge Andrea Marceca Strong and Judicial Administrative Assistant Kristen Cole.

Sitting at painted-steel tables inside York County Prison, nine men wearing orange jumpsuits told a man in a dress suit what they hope to gain from a specialized program for inmates who are United States military veterans.

The York County Department of Veterans Affairs is moving to better serve county veterans.

The department's first day in the York County Administrative Center at 28 E. Market St. is Monday, June 5. Veterans affairs will be located in the basement of the building that already houses many county government offices, including Elections & Voter Registration, Tax Assessment and the Recorder of Deeds.

The York County Sheriff's Office will conduct Operation Safe Surrender, a countywide initative encouraging people with outstanding arrest warrants to voluntarily turn themselves in at a safe, neutral and faith-based setting.

Sheriff Richard Keuerleber released details on the operation last month during a news conference on the steps of the York County Judicial Center.
